Former President Jimmy Carter Just Made a Solar Farm to Power Half His City

Though former United States President Jimmy Carter is not in the office, he is still working towards making America green again.

This February, Carter leased out 10 acres of his homeland in Plains, Georgia to be used as a solar farm.

The solar panels well generate over 55 million kilowatt hours of clean energy over the course of the next 25 years, according to SolAmerica, the solar development firm responsible for the construction of the farm.

Almost half of the town is expected to be powered by the energy generated from the solar panels.

“Distributed, clean energy generation is critical to meeting growing energy needs around the world while fighting the effects of climate change,” said Carter in a statement. “I am encouraged by the tremendous progress that solar and other clean energy solutions have made in recent years and expect those trends to continue.”
